Parents and students,
First off I just want to let you know how excited I am to be at Bethlehem Christian Academy this year! I have lots I want to do with the K-5 class and make it as much fun as possible while still learning. I can already see that I have a wonderful group of kids and am eager to get to know them, as well as the families.
Now a little about me. I am from Simpsonville and attended Hillcrest High School. I have a Bachelor of Science from Anderson University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I recently finished working on a Master's of Education, also from Anderson University. I am not married and have no kids, but I do have two dogs, Maggie and Bailey.
There are a few things I want to incorporate into our classroom to help with behavior and self control. The first is the behavior chart. This will work the same as it did in the K-4 classroom. Each child has a pocket with a green, yellow, and red piece of paper. The students will flip there card when necessary. I am hoping this will help with the amount of talking. Second, I want to start a compliment chain in our room. We are working our hardest on walking in a quiet, straight line in the hallway and doing our best when we go to related arts so we can start our chain. While the chain grows and reaches certain points on the wall the class will receive incentives (ex: extra recess, special snack, etc…). Anyone may give our class compliments including teachers, administration, parents, and even Mrs. Durham and I. We are hoping this will encourage the kids to stay focused in order to receive the benefits and practice self control.
Again, I look forward to this school year with a great group of kids. Please feel free to contact me if you have concerns or questions.
