"Delivering the daily recommended developmentally appropriate amounts of knowledge for my Special K students"
Greeting Parents!
I am very excited about being your child's Kindergarten teacher this year. I have an exciting year planned full of opportunities for learning and growing. Your child will be studying about many aspects of life including; self, home, family, and community throughout the year.
Snacks:
I will send a monthly snack calendar at the end of the month. Each child/family should provide enough snacks for the whole class. The number of students may change during the first part of the year and we will let everyone know how many students we have in the class. Please check the calendar each month for the day your child should bring in snack. We will send the snack basket home with your child the day before your child should bring in the snacks to help as a reminder. If you want to send a drink, please include cups or send individual juice boxes/pouches.
Homework:
Will be in the 2-pocket folder. There will be no homework the first week of school or on Wednesdays or Fridays throughout the school year. Please make a point to check the folder for school notes and important information frequently. We will send a kindergarten level book home each week for your child to practice. Please discuss the pictures in the book as well as letters/words we have learned. Also, have your child practice pointing to each word as you read to him/her. Make a point to read to your child every night and write down the title of the book on the recording sheet that will be provided. Feel free to read your own books from home or books from the public library.
Behavior:
With regard to behavior, your child will be expected to act in a manner that will ensure safety and consideration for the feelings of others. A weekly behavior report will be kept in the homework folder it will go home daily but it needs to be signed each Friday and returned on Monday. This report will reflect how well your child follows class and school rules. It will also provide feedback on class work and homework performance.
Consequences: Green=Good, Yellow=Lose 5 min. of recess, Red=Lose 10 min. of recess, Blue=Lose all recess, call or send note home.
Transportation arrangements: If someone is to pick your child up from school, walk home or ride a different bus and it is not the normal routine please send us a note so that we can make sure he/she gets to the right place. This is very important in kindergarten. I am not allowed to let a child inform me of a change in transportation.
Absences: If your child is absent I need a written excuse the day your child returns to school. I am required to turn in all notes to the office where they will determine if an absence is excused or unexcused.
I will continue to keep you informed about class/school activities through weekly newsletters and calendars. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at school at 688-0410. I am looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
Kathy L. McMillan-Bennon, B.A., M.Ed., Ed.S.
